About

Dr Stefan Applis, Assistant Professor of Geography and its Didactics

I teach geography and philosophy at university and school. In my work among social spaces, I am interested in the question of how different ‚cultures‘ create spaces within their specific value systems. On the one hand, I am fascinated by the fact that people, no matter where they live, always seek the same basic things. On the other hand, I am amazed by the emphasis with which people and groups of people want to define themselves as different from others.
In my photographic work, I trace these production processes of the social in space.
In my academic work, I am currently focusing on the effects of tourist practices on the social space of Svaneti in Georgia.
